Day 13

There were a lot of great verses in today's proverb. It was hard to narrow it down and focus on just one thought. But as I read through today's chapter a few times, the verse that kept piercing me was verse 3:

"He that keepeth his mouth keepeth his life: but he that openeth wide his lips shall have destruction."

Somethings are better left unsaid.

In a world filled with text messages, email, tweets, blogs and status updates, I know it is hard to consider the idea that there is a time and place when it is best to not say anything, but it is true.

Words are powerful. When we are not careful, our words can destroy. Words can belittle someone, or they can build someone up. They can cause divisions or unite us.

Don't be like the man with a wide open mouth, spouting out every thought and opinion that crosses his mind as he will surely have destruction. But be like the wise man, who knows when to hold his tongue.
